FACTS: TEAM
Brian Clark
Partner, CEO
Even before college, technology and computers were simply tools for accomplishing something else creative. I never even considered them as a profession, as I was fairly certain I'd continue to develop my career as an independent music producer. Instead, the blossoming of the Web gave me a once-in-a-lifetime derail that changed the focus of my professional life.
In my spare time, you're likely to find me playing an MMPORPG, digging into the hidden corners of Orlando's ethnic cuisines, neglecting my occassional roommates in the East Village, or plotting my next diving trip in tropical waters.
STUFF I DIGG
Japanese Television!
The most useful aspect of YouTube is that I can gorge myself on the latest in Japanese television show trends from any hotel room in the world.
Tammy Kearns
Partner, COO, CFO
Born and raised in Indiana, I transplanted to Florida in the late 80's. I had grown weary of my career in management, so I went back to school to persue my love of audio and film. It was there, in 1993, that I met my best friend Brian Clark, who helped me pick out my first computer. In 1995, we decided to start a company, and it has been one amazing ride ever since!
I enjoy reading (or watching) true crime stories, good or bad horror flicks, and anything Hitchcock. I am an obsessive fan of the Orlando Magic, and hail from a family of die hard Chicago Cubs fans.
STUFF I DIGG
Alfred Hitchcock
This man is my filmmaking hero, not just for his works but for his process in creating them.
Andrew Cowan
Partner, CTO
Some of my earliest memories involve playing video games like Pong, Joust, Defender, Donkey Kong, Galaga, etc. When I tired of those games I learned Basic and started making my own games on my Atari, granted they were not any good. Years later I would meet and pledge allegiance to Brian Clark in a mud where the resident 'Evil One' had just finished slaying us both. From that meeting he would invite me to join he and Tammy Kearns in what would soon become Global Media Design. Looking back over a decade later I have no regrets.
When I am not online (working or playing) I am spending time with Suzanne, my wife of 10 years (whom I met in my university's gameroom) and my two kids Abby and Zach. I love playing around on the guitar and composing and recording songs, some of them are even listenable, though my loyal kids love even the bad ones and you can often hear them shouting 'Rock on daddy'.
STUFF I DIGG
J.D. Ashcraft
General Manager
Despite being born and raised in Florida...I've always had an interest in computers, an interest which came second only to a love of the sea. A dream career in oceanography was ultimately derailed, however, by the discovery that my commodore-64 could connect to another computer and the two of us, or five or ten of us, could all share in a single adventure game, or trade data or collaborate on finding other networks....there was no turning back.
I still manage to indulge my love of the sea though, venturing into Atlantic and Gulf waters as often as I can, preferably with my wife Irina and our daughter, Alexandra.
STUFF I DIGG
2 Gringos in the Caribbean
A great blog written by a couple who made the leap to island living in the Caicos islands, and like to rub it in our face with regular posts. One day.
Live Science
Great at floating up the more important and/or interesting science news. A combo of Live Science and Space.com newsletters fill a folder in my email.
The Onion
Tom-foolery taken to glorious heights, after 13 years of reading/subscribing, it still never gets old.
Jim Rhoades
Sr. Production Supervisor
In childhood I had a variety of interests - music, graphic design, computers, building things, taking things apart. I had a thirst for knowledge and loved to read and figure out how things worked.
So, it was natural for me to fall into a career in which I could explore those interests and continue on my dual path of artistic and technical discovery. My work for GMD includes web design, video editing, writing music, programming, project management and a slew of other tasks.
When I'm not in the office, I love to spend time traveling with my wife and daughter. Once in a while I get to take a photograph or two.
STUFF I DIGG
Photography
Over the past couple of years I've fallen in love with photography. One of these days I'll get around to updating my photoblog.
Chris Campbell
Production Supervisor
I am one of the few people actually born and raised in Orlando, Florida and still after all of these years can't handle the heat. Being the youngest of the crew here at GMD, my childhood was filled with slightly newer toys but geeky ones none the less. I grew up keeping my interests very diversed from sports, videogames, computers, and music. All of which have stuck into my adult life. I have a deep love for Apple, Golf, UCF, the Orlando Magic, and indie music.
I graduated from UCF with a degree in Digital Media and web design & development was my first...and only option to pay the bills. When I'm not working (which is alot) I tend to my very vigorous TV schedule. Long live DVR!
STUFF I DIGG
Jonny Leahan
Lab Producer
After living in six US states and a foreign country, and having visited another 35 countries, I finally settled in New York City. With a resume as varied as my travels, I began to think there would never be a job opening for a former restaurant manager turned event producer, turned journalist/ publicist/ filmmaker. Then I found out GMD was looking for one of those. The result was a series of experimental collaborations that has left me both challenged and stimulated at every turn.
Outside of the GMD laboratories, I can be found honing my cooking skills, perfecting my drinking skills, and racing to discover new music before the hipsters claim it as their own.
STUFF I DIGG
Robert Wood
Assistant Lab Producer
As a child I either wanted to be an astronaut or a filmmaker. I could no longer pursue the former after discovering tall people can’t fit into space ships. The journey to find my filmmaking niche has taken me from theatre school in Texas to the glitz and glamour of Los Angeles to the indie world of New York City where I found GMD, which allows me to work on fun and exciting projects that I can believe in.
Other than hosting Winter BBQs and attending sporting events, I enjoy exploring the country through camping and winter sports. I can also be found tucked away in fantasy, sci-fi or philosophy books, working on pet-projects with friends or enjoying all the fine dining that NYC has to offer.
STUFF I DIGG
Snowboarding
There is no greater feeling than flying through trees on a soft, slick surface in a lofty altitude at a high rate of speed.
Batman
The world's greatest detective and one of the best fictional characters ever created… take that Sherlock Holmes.
